Hands Across The Sand-Sonoma County Style

Introducing Laura Duggan, who attended the Hands Across the Sand event out on our Bodega Bay coastline this past Saturday. Laura Duggan is a free-lance writer and editor, as well as owner of a small self-publishing press, Nicasio Press here in Sebastopol.

At 12 Noon on June 25, clean energy enthusiasts joined hands across the globe in a peaceful protest at Hands Across The Sand. The event is an action to bring public awareness to the negative environmental effects of oil exploration and to encourage clean energy and renewables. Supporters will hold hands forming a line on the beach for 15 minutes.

Perserving Old Barns in Wine Country

I love old barns!

They are just too cool. They are a symbol for a time gone past, they can be full of stuff collected over decades or just full of memories. Some are fully functioning farm and work barns and some are artisticly melting into the landscape. Napa and Sonoma County barns are all over the countryside. Of course they are usually on private property so one does not get to peak inside. We took some time over Irene’s birthday weekend to venture to the “other” part of California’s fantastic wine country. Being from Sonoma County, there are not that many reasons to go to Napa but it is just as beautiful there.    [Read more…]

Tax Credit due to expire in April-2010

The U.S. government’s home buyer tax credit was extended to April 30, 2010 and may not be extended again. This tax credit can benefit first-time home buyers up to $8,000 and current homeowners up to $6,500, provided they meet certain guidelines. And because this program is a tax credit – it does not have to be repaid.  You apply for this credit when you do your tax return.  Of course, it is always in your best interest to seek the advice of a Tax Attorney or your CPA to find how these credits fit your particular needs.    [Read more…]
