Grape to Glass-Russian River Valley Winegrowers Organization Event in Sonoma County

My wife and I attended the 17th Annual Grape to Glass Event put on by the Russian River Valley Winegrowers Organization this past Saturday night. Once again I was reminded how fortunate I am to live here in Sonoma County!

We joined winemakers, grape growers, restaurateurs, hoteliers and neighbors at this popular Pre-Harvest Party; the setting, Richard’s Grove & Saralee’s Vineyard in Windsor.

The silent auction and wine tasting tent

The area’s vintners have spent over a decade and a half perfecting their late-summer party and have maximized the fun, celebrating the fruits of the season…drinking great wine, feasting off the land and dancing the night away at this unique party.

It was kicked off with a tasting reception showcasing more than 50 wineries and growers here in the Russian River Valley. In addition,  local restaurants, caterers and food purveyors shared their family heirloom recipes.

great wines!

We strolled through the park-like setting viewing the work of local artists; and bidding on the silent auction of oversized and special bottlings, restaurant dinners and gift baskets, all the while sampling tasty tidbits of local specialties and of course sipping the various wines.

Following the reception was a savory barbecue dinner prepared by Larry Vito of Smokehouse Bistro with all of the fixings, including all the wine you could possibly want . And yes, there was fresh homemade Gravenstein apple pie for dessert, warmed in the wood brick oven and topped with vanilla ice cream.

All in all it was a great evening spent in our Sonoma County Community with our neighbors and friends…it really is all about celebrating before we hit the bustle of harvest while enjoying the wine and the joy of being outdoors on a perfect August evening.
